About 100 Ships
Several years ago, at a flea market in rural Pennsylvania, I found an awkward, imperfect sampler of a ship that included the text, "Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out after it". I immediately recognized it as a sign, a message, an epiphany of sorts. I bought it, and it became the talisman that hangs in my studio. It is a reminder to go for it - to never give up - to assume what I seek is out there and start swimming - no matter how imperfect or awkward I might feel about jumping in.
Using the sampler as my inspiration, I am creating 100 works-on-paper of 100 unique ships, boats and sailing vessels - in a variety of media, between July and November 2018. Each work-on-paper is the exact size of the original sampler: 11” x 14”. Each image includes the same text. I would like these drawings to provide inspiration for 100 others, as well as support for students giving 100% at Otis College.
All 100 images are for sale for $100 each, and all proceeds (after taxes and shipping) will be donated to the Otis College of Art and Design Centennial Scholarship fund.
